A Boys' War

Single channel HD video; 10:05

In A Boys’ War we follow two young boys on a journey. This video piece was inspired by the roles women and children played in the American Civil War. Young boys operated as spies because they could easily cross enemy lines and not arouse suspicion and women would hide medical supplies, ammunition and even children, under their huge skirts. Two boys emerge from under a woman’s skirt with one mission. But when they separate, each boy navigates the terrain incongruously. One is determined and steadfastly moves forward; the other is jumpy and distracted and becomes hemmed in by the landscape. With distant sounds of cannons firing, only one boy makes it to their meet up but the other is lost in the landscape.
